Using the Map

Exploring the World Map

The interactive map showing friends and day/night overlay

The Map is where you can see your friends' locations around the globe and explore different views of the world.

Map views

You can switch between two geometries:

  • Flat: A traditional flat world map
  • Globe: A 3D globe you can rotate and tilt

Map styles

Two visual styles are available:

  • Dark: A sleek dark-themed map
  • Satellite: Real satellite imagery

Day and night

The map shows a day/night terminator overlay. This subtle shading indicates where it's currently daytime or nighttime across the world, giving you an instant visual sense of your friends' time of day.

Filtering

Use the filter controls to show or hide:

  • Yourself on the map
  • All friends
  • Specific groups

You can set your preferred default filter in Settings > Preferences > Defaults > Map > Filter.

Interacting with markers

Click on a friend's marker to focus the map on their location. If distance display is available (see "How Distance Works"), you can see a line drawn between you and your friend with the approximate distance.

Location type

You can toggle between viewing display locations (generalized by precision) and actual locations in your settings. Note that other users always see your display location, never your actual location.

Map projection (Advanced)

If you enable Advanced Features in Settings, you can choose different map projections: Mercator, Equirectangular, Equal Earth, Natural Earth, or Winkel Tripel.
